What to wear to an interview

1.22.2013

It's kind of weird, but I like interviewing for jobs. I communicate better with strangers than I do with people I actually know. There is something fascinating to me about getting to know someone who knows nothing about you. It's like a chance to start over, make a huge impression and persuade someone why you are who they're looking for. I like the challenge that comes with job interviews.

If you're like me and you're having to run from interview to interview, you need several outfits to wear, and they need to be professional. I like to look the part, but throw a bit of Kaylyn into the mix. In the outfit above, I wore a really fitted sweater dress from Express with a black leather belt that hugged at the waist. It really showed off my figure. To add a pop of pizazz, I wore my glitter kitten heels from Nine West and added a hot pink lip (Clinique Watermelon). Y'all know I can't resist the glittah!

What do you usually wear to an interview? Does it reflect your style?

I think you must be a little crazy if you actually like interviewing for jobs--but I love your interview outfit!

Please give me some of your interview courage.... I hate them! I feel like I have to try to be exactly what they're looking for and can't really be myself. I do like dressing up for them though.... I tend to wear a pencil skirt, cute blouse, and suit jacket. Paired with some cute jewelry.

this is beautiful, I love it! I tend to gravitate more towards the classic pencil skirt for interviews but with a fabulous dress like that, I just may change it up!

I generally wear black or khaki slacks and a button-up blouse. I would like a nice black sweater dress such as this one, though.

Ooooh, I despise interviewing! It's always so stressful for me and I tend to make it a bigger deal in my head than I should. But I always like to look fabulous with something simple, black and chic. Similar to what you have on here.

I'm in the terrible interviewing process as well, and it really is kinda fun. I like trying to convince people why they need me, and it's also nice hearing them try to convince me why I need them. One of my biggest problems (especially this week) is choosing winter interview clothes. It's such a challenge compared to just wearing dress pants and a nice top.

Such a cute outfit. I like to dress up in something my style (bright and fun) but I also read a statistic that said a lot of employers prefer to hire people who are not stylish. What that means, I don't really know, but it would sure be disappointing if it were true! I hope an employer wouldn't judge someone for looking TOO nice!
